Ohio State Senator Mark Mallory with Claudette Juska of the Ecology Center at the Statehouse in Columbus.

On March 1st, Ohio State Senator Mark Mallory (D-Cinncinati) sponsored the "Ohio Hybrid Car and Clean Fuels Day" at the Statehouse in Columbus to bring attention to the use of fuel efficient automobiles as a method of conserving natural resources and protecting the environment. The event showcased several U.S.-made hybrid and advanced vehicles from Ford, DaimlerChrysler and GM, including the Ford Escape Hybrid, the Jeep Liberty CRD and the Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid.

In conjunction with the event Senator Mallory introduced legislation in the Senate to create the "Hybrid Vehicle Acquisition Study Committee" for the purpose of studying the feasibility of replacing the existing Ohio state motor vehicle fleet over time with hybrid vehicles.

In attendance at the event were several state legislators, municipal officials, auto industry representatives, and environmental groups including the Ohio Environmental Council, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, and the Ecology Center.
