Technology: Variable Valve Timing (VVT); Electric Power Steering MPG (City/Hwy): 24/32 (current with EPS) Estimated Fuel Economy Improvement: 5%, 4% The new Chevrolet Cobalt comes standard with electric power steering that improves performance and increases fuel-economy by 4%. The Cobalt will soon also feature an optional 2.4L Ecotec I-4 engine that uses VVT to improve fuel-economy by 4-8%. This is the same engine that will be featured in GM's new Saturn Sky and Pontiac Solstice roadsters in 2006. The Cobalt is GM's replacement for the Cavalier and is available in coupe and sedan models. The 3,900 Lordstown UAW workers began production of Cobalt in late 2004. GM is considering adding more vehicles with the same underbody features as the Cobalt to Lordstown's production in order to maximize plant capability.
