The new 2006 Ford Explorer will feature an optional 4.6L V-8 engine with variable-valve-timing and an automatic six-speed transmissions. This is Ford's first application of its new six-speed, a technology that significantly improves fuel-economy while also improving performance. Louisville Assembly plant will begin production of the new vehicle in summer 2005.
