Technology: Variable Valve Timing (VVT); Six-speed Automatic Transmission Estimated Fuel Economy Improvement: 4-8%; 4-8% MPG (City/Hwy): 15/21(2WD), 14/20(4WD) The new 2006 Ford Explorer will feature an optional 4.6L V-8 engine with variable-valve-timing and an automatic six-speed transmissions. This is Ford's first application of its new six-speed, a technology that significantly improves fuel-economy while also improving performance.
