Technology: Variable Valve Timing Fuel Economy Improvement: 4-8% Ford's Romeo Engine Plant began production of a new modular V-8 engine that incorporates variable-valve-timing to improve performance and fuel economy. The engine first appeared in the new Mustang GT, beginning at the end of 2005. It is now also available on the 2006 Explorer. Ford invested $192 million in renovations to the Romeo plant to accommodate the new engine. Production capacity will be 200,000 units annually. Source: Ford Motor Company |
