The Jeep Liberty Common Rail Diesel is the first diesel mid-sized SUV available in the US. The Liberty CRD achieves over 25% increase in fuel economy and reduction in global warming gas emissions while maintaining the same performance and providing more torque than the gasoline V-6 Liberty.

Though the Liberty CRD does not achieve the same level of emissions as its gasoline counterpart, DaimlerChrysler has incorporated a host of advanced technologies that make this vehicle much cleaner than previous generation diesel vehicles. DaimlerChrysler is also planning further improvements that will help this vehicle achieve even lower emissions in the future.

Advanced diesel technologies in the Liberty CRD include:

  • An advanced common rail direct injection fuel system that helps the engine achieve finer atomization, leaner combustion, higher power, lower engine-out hydrocarbon exhaust emissions and lower NOx emissions than previous generation diesel engines.
  • Improved injectors that burn fuel more thoroughly, produce fewer particulates and lower emissions.
  • An electronically controlled variable geometry turbocharger that improves control of boost pressure, reducing emissions and improving full load engine power and torque.
