GM's Ecotec Engine with VVT

Technology: Cylinder Deactivation
Fuel Economy Improvement: Up to 8%

GM's new Vortec 5300 V-8 engine uses cylinder deactivation to improve efficiency, reduce emissions and increase fuel economy. It is an option on the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT, GMC Envoy XL, Envoy XUV, Chevrolet Impala and Pontiac Grand Prix. The engine provides a significant increase in horsepower and torque over the I-6 that is standard in the vehicles, but will get comparable fuel economy.

The engine is built at GM's Romulus Engine plant in Michigan.
