Tell Congress to Save Oil and Save Jobs!

U.S. automakers have invested billions of dollars in renovating existing plants to build fuel-efficient vehicles and technologies. At the same time, these investments have helped to create thousands of high quality jobs. New policies can help ensure that this trend continues, while also ensuring that specific fuel saving targets are met.

Send Congress a message urging them to support new policies that create jobs, reduce dependence on foreign oil, and improve vehicle fuel efficiency. Dear Legislator,

As you consider options for raising fuel economy standards, please ensure that new fuel-efficient vehicles, technologies and fuels are produced here in the U.S.

Over the past 4 years, U.S. automakers have invested over $7 billion in renovating existing plants to build fuel-efficient vehicles and technologies.  At the same time, these investments have helped to create or retain over 12,000 high quality, union-organized jobs.  New policies can help ensure that this trend continues, while also ensuring that specific fuel saving targets are met.

I urge you to pass legislation based on the following principles:

- Incentives that increase investment in the domestic production of fuel-efficient vehicle technologies and expand auto industry jobs here in the U.S.
- Renewable Fuels standards that further grow the market for sustainable, homegrown energy crops, and speed-up development of cellulosic ethanol
- Significant fuel economy improvements and energy security outcomes that distribute the burden fairly among domestic and foreign producers.

Please make sure that your efforts to improve fuel economy also help create more U.S. jobs.
