Technology: Mild hybrid vehicle, VVT engine, automatic six-speed transmission MPG (City/Hwy): 28/35 (hybrid) Estimated Fuel Economy Improvement: Up to 30% (hybrid) GM's new Saturn Aura "Green Line" hybrid-electric vehicle reached dealerships in March, and is the lowest priced hybrid available in the U.S. market. In addition, the vehicle is eligible for a federal tax credit of up to $1,300. The Aura Green line uses GM's Belt-Alternator-Starter system to achieve up to a 30% increase in fuel economy over a conventional version of the Aura. The system features GM's 2.4L Ecotec engine with variable-valve- timing, with a motor and 10 kW nickel-metal-hydride battery. The system turns the engine off during idle and coasting, and achieves 28 mpg in the city, 35 on the highway. This is the same mild hybrid system that is currently used in the Saturn Vue Green Line. In 2006, UAW Local 31 began production of GM's brand new Aura Sedan. The conventional version of the Aura is available with an optional VVT V-6 engine mated to an automatic six-speed tramission, both of which help improve fuel efficiency. In order to build the Aura, GM invested $200 million at the Fairfax, Kansas assembly plant, which also builds the Chevrolet Malibu. In addition, 300 jobs were created in order to support the new production. Source: General Motors CorporationRead more about the Saturn Aura Green Line: |
