GM plans to produce hybrid versions of its GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Tahoe full-size SUVs. The SUVs will utilize two-mode full hybrid propulsion systems, and will also use cylinder deactivation technology to improve their engine efficiency. The vehicles will use a new integrated two-mode hybrid transmission produced at GM's Baltimore Transmission plant.

Production of the hybrid vehicles will begin at the Arlington Assembly plant in Texas beginning in 2007. GM is investing over $175 million in development of these new vehicles.

The hybrid system for these vehicles is being developed jointly by GM, DaimlerChrysler, and BMW. The same system will also be available on Chrysler Group's Dodge Durango SUV.
