DaimlerChrysler's Commercial Buses North America division is producing hybrid-electric diesel city transit buses. The buses are capable of up to 35% increase in fuel-economy, and significant reductions in harmful emissions, including 90% recution in particulate matter emissions, 40% reduction in nitrous oxide emissions, and 30% decrease in global- warming gas emissions. So far, the company has had 1000 orders for the buses from major metropolitan areas, including New York, San Francisco, and Toronto.

The hybrid components of the bus are assembled into the buses' body structure by UAW Local 2243 in Oriskany, New York. From there the buses are shipped to another facility for final assembly.
