Chevrolet Malibu

Technology: Mild Hybrid and Electric Power Steering
MPG (City/Hwy): 24/35 (current)
Estimated Fuel Economy Improvement: 20% (mild hybrid) and 4% (electric power steering)

GM plans to produce a mild hybrid version of the Chevrolet Malibu starting in 2007 for the 2008 model year. The vehicle will utilize GM's Belt-Alternator-Starter system that turns off the engine during idle and coasting. This is the same system that will be used later in 2006 in the Saturn Vue "Green Line". GM has stated the system could also be made available on other mid-size models as demand warrants.

The Chevrolet Malibu also currently features electric power steering that improves steering performance, while also reducing engine load and improving fuel economy by 4%.
