Chevrolet Silverado Mild Hybrid

Technology: Mild Hybrid Vehicle
MPG (City/Hwy): 18/21 (2WD), 17/19 (4WD)
Estimated Fuel Economy Improvement: 12%

The Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra are available in mild hybrid versions that utilize an Integrated Starter-Generator (ISG). The ISG allows the engine to shut down during idle to save fuel, and it also smoothes out shifting, generates electrical current from braking to charge batteries, and runs auxiliary power outlets.

An additional 8,100 square feet of assembly and bay areas were added to the Fort Wayne Assembly plant in order for the models to be assembled there. These vehicles with be available nationwide beginning with the 2006 model year.

GM will continue to improve the fuel economy of these vehicles by adding cylinder deactivation and full hybrid versions by 2008.
