Delphi Saginaw Steering Systems now produces an electric power steering system, E-STEER™. This steering system improves fuel economy by eliminating some of the traditional hydraulic steering system’s components and using power from an electric motor instead of the engine.

Delphi invested $315 million to redevelop the E-STEER™ plant site and preserved 500 jobs in the process. The plant is able to produce 400,000 E-STEER™ systems annually and is responsible for the production and assembly of the entire system. The system now appears in the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu, Saturn Vue and Saturn Ion Coupe.
